With the phenomenal increases in smart phone ownership, it’s not surprising that British and European online gambling companies are experiencing good business results from mobile users, and the trend appears to be duplicating in the United States.
The latest numbers from the respected Pew Internet and American Life Project show that 46 percent of US residents own mobiles, and 53 percent of those and counting are smartphones – a startling rise of 11 percent since May 2011, when the last study was completed.
More men use smartphones than women, with 49 percent of smartphone users being males and 44 percent females.
The age demographics hold few surprises: 71 percent of those aged 25 to 34 are smartphone users, with 66 percent of the 18 to 29 demographic opting for the new generation phones. Older Americans continue to take a conservative approach, and only 13 percent of this demographic own smartphones.
On the platform front, Android is the technoloogy of choice, closely followed by Apple’s iOS, with Blackberry showing noticeable declines, and Windows and Palm barely in the running.
