From November 30 this year android application developers who wish to use the Google market facility will be required to categorise their applications in four age levels;
– All
– Pre-teen
– Teen
– Mature
Gambling will fall into the Teen and Mature category for the purposes of this initiative, which is designed to guard against inappropriate under-age use of apps.
Google’s “Android Market”, founded in 2008, is the equivalent of the Apple iStore and currently hosts over 100 000 apps and counting. An independent survey by Distimo recently found that “Android Market” has the highest number of free applications – almost double that of the Apple iStore, however the Apple iStore permits real money gambling apps whereas Google’s Android Market does not.
