The operator of the South African national lottery, Gidani Party Limited, has inked a deal with Intralot to use its mobile gambling B-On service.
The agreement signed this week will enable players to take part using their mobile telephones, initially through First National Bank of South Africa before other banking institutions are added in the near future.
The B-On gaming platform is to be provided by the Intralot Interactive subsidiary and includes player club services, multi-channel support and e-payment and e-marketing services. The platform features various multi-player mobile and Internet gaming capabilities and can also support a wide range of game types involving skill, knowledge and chance, a company spokesman said.
Community features with B-On include friends’ lists, matchmaking, presence, chat and instant messaging.
Bongani Khumalo, chairman and CEO for Gidani commented: “In the second half of this year, Gidani will see the introduction of new and exciting National Lottery experiences every other month. This is in fulfilment of the commitment we made when we took over the running of the National Lottery of our country in October of 2007, promising that South Africa will have a lottery like no other in the world.”
Gidani has operated the National Lottery of South Africa since October of 2007 following an international tender with Intralot’s South African subsidiary, the largest shareholder after the government.
“We are very pleased that South Africa will benefit from the great advantages of our B-On pioneering gaming platform,” said Constantinos Antonopoulos, CEO for Intralot. “With the new playing channels the National Lottery of South Africa will have the opportunity to raise more money for good causes and players will enjoy more exciting gaming experiences.”
