New Jersey Sen. Jim Whelan wants the state’s casinos to offer the same convenience of mobile “on premises” gambling as the Las Vegas casinos, according to local media reports on the beleaguered Atlantic City.
On Monday a state Assembly committee moved forward a bill proposed by Sen Whelan and approved by the Senate earlier this year.
The Assemby bill, sponsored by Representative John Burzichelli, would empower Atlantic Casino operators to offer hand-held mobile gambling devices to customers on casino property, as long as they are inoperable beyond the casino’s boundaries.
Gamblers must establish an account with the casino, and winning bets must be paid out on the casino property.
Rep. Burzichelli told the committee that the on-premises concept was “a smart 21st century adaptation” by the casinos.
